Premier League giants Liverpool have been encouraged to sign Brighton and Hove Albion star Moises Caicedo, who is being targeted by Chelsea.

Liverpoolare ramping up their efforts to improve their squad ahead of next season, with £35m already being spent to sign Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister.

They are not stopping there though as they are in the market for one or two more midfielders. This follows the departures of James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are being linked with Khephren Thuram, Manu Kone, Ryan Gravenberch and Gabri Veiga. These players would cost a lot less than Caicedo, who is valued at around £80m by Brighton.

Arsenal tried to sign him in January, but they have since turned their attention to West Ham standout Declan Rice, who is also being pursued by Man City.

Caicedo is still likely to get himself a move away from the Seagulls, with Chelsea and Man Utd among the clubs in the race to sign him for a huge fee.

Ex-Liverpool player Steve Nicol reckons his former club should sign Caicedo if they “can’t get Rice”.

“I would have liked Declan Rice to go to Liverpool,” Nicol told ESPN. “But that’s not happening.

“So, I have gone with Caicedo. He actually disrupts the opposition. Gets the ball back. But he can play a little bit as well.”

“Liverpool, at their best, under Klopp have had three players in the middle of the park that have done that. They have got the ball back and supplied the front three, regardless of what three it will be next season.

“So, if I can’t get Declan Rice, then I would like this guy in the middle of the park for Liverpool, alongside Mac Allister. What better situation to have for a manager than to have two great players coming in, who know each other so well, that it shouldn’t be a problem integrating? It’s an iԀєɑł scenario for Liverpool.”

The Athletic’s James Pearcehas informed Liverpool’s supporters that they ‘realistically’ could sign ‘two more midfielders and a centre-back’ this summer.

‘I’d say it’s realistic (not guaranteed) that Liverpool will sign two more midfielders and a centre-back this summer. They need to address areas of weakness in the squad. Anything less would be Ԁιȿɑρρօιɴτιɴɢ,’ Pearce wrote.

‘Jurgen Klopp said that iԀєɑłly all business would be done by the start of pre-season training on July 8 (the international group ɾєρօɾτ back to Kirkby on July 11). He also added the caveat that things might drag on.’
