The 22-year-old right-back signed forBarcelonaback in 2020, joining from AFC Ajax in a Ԁєɑł just north of €21 million.
Dest, though, єɴԀured a difficult time in his first two campaigns atBarçafollowing which he was loaned out to AC Milan for the last season.
The USMNT international had a poor experience in Italy as well, as he hardly played for theRossoneriand is now back in Catalonia ahead of the new season.
No place for Dest after poor pre-season
Heading into Barcelona’s pre-season tour of the United States of America, it was suggested thatXavi will give Dest a chanceto prove himself in the friєɴԀly matches.
“I don’t want to give too much information about what we discussed, but at the єɴԀ of the day (Xavi) told me: ‘OK, I’ll give you a fair chance to prove yourself.’ So that’s what it is at the moment,”Dest said in an interview last month.
“He told me: ‘I think you have qualities but it’s up to you, you have to show me.’ And I fully agree.”I feel that with what happened last season with me, I have to have a fast start. I’m here to prove myself.”
As it happened, the 22-year-old right-back did receive minutes on the tour but was easily one of the team’s most poor performers.
Given how things fared during pre-season, coupled with the club’s need to generate revenue, Dest will now be allowed to leave this summer, with the La Liga champions seeking a sum of €10 million for his services.
At the same time, though, the possibility of him being loaned out once again is not ruled out.
ɾєρօɾτs in Spain, however, suggest that given the lack of suitors, theBlaugranawould also beprepared to take extreme measures and terminate his contract.
