Toni Kroos has signed a one-year contract extension that will keep him atReal Madriduntil the summer of 2024.
Asannouncedby the most successful European club, the 33-year-old has agreed to renew his Ԁєɑł at the Santiago Bernabeu for another year.
Despite splashing out a small fortune to capture Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund earlier this month,Los Merengueshave decided to stick with one of their most loyal servants.
Bellingham’s arrival will significantly increase competition for places in Carlo Ancelotti’s midfield, but the Spaniards were still reluctant to dispose of the German star.
Kroos left Bayern Munich to join Madrid in 2014, having won the Champions League with the Bundesliga juggernauts the previous year.
He has since gone on to lift ‘Big Ears’ on four occasions with the record-time La Liga champions, including an unprecedented three straight titles under Zinedine Zidane between 2016 and 2018.
In addition to helping shape up the club’s most successful continental run, Kroos has been part of Los Blancos’ sides to win three La Liga and Copa del Rey titles apiece.
During his trophy-laden spell in Spain, the deep-lying playmaker has accrued 417 appearances, forging a formidable midfield partnership with Luka Modric.
But while Kroos seems ready to embark on his tenth season at Madrid,the Croatia captain’s future hangs in the balance after attracting interest from Saudi Arabia.
Modric’s contract runs out at the єɴԀ of June.
Though extension talks with the club are not progressing well, it’s understood thatthe 38-year-old has turned down an approach from the Middle East to continue with Madrid for another season.
Like Kroos, Modric has been critical to Los Merengues’ monumental success on multiple fronts over the past decade.
The duo may no longer be at their peak powers. But they could still prove essential to helping young stars such as Bellingham, Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde fulfil their potential.
