Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund has said Manchester United are on the “top shelf” of football teams, which is his “goal” to reach.
Hojlund is being linked with a move to Old Trafford with Erik ten Hag eager to sign a new No. 9 in the summer transfer window.
Ten Hag’s options in that position have been severely limited following the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo last November.
Anthony Martial led the line for much of the second half of the season but has a very poor ιɴjυɾу record so is not a reliable option, meanwhile, Wout Weghorst was signed on loan in January but failed to prove himself at the club and was often bizarrely used in a No. 10 role due to his inability to lead the line.
Ten Hag is ɾєρօɾτedly ‘obsessed’ with Tottenham striker Harry Kaneand has made him his top summer target.
United are linked with several strikers and will pursue a different player early on in the transfer window should Spurs owner Daniel Levy make it clear he will not sell Kane to a Premier League rival.
Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani, Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos and the aforementioned Hojlund are all believed to be on the Red Devils’ radar.
And the Atalanta youngster has opened the door for a move to Old Trafford, noting that he “must have done something right” if the rumours United want to sign him are true.
News of Hojlund changing agent has been a big talking point and he has insisted “it’s a trial period and that’s all I can say”.
Speaking toTipsbladet whilst on international duty with Denmark, the 20-year-old refused to rule out a move to United and was high in praise of them as a club.
“It is a huge club, so I must have done something right if it’s rumoured they want me,” he added. “We have to see what happens.
“From what we all hear, I imagine a lot could happen to quite a few strikers this summer, as many clubs are looking for a Number 9. Something will definitely happen there, and then we’ll have to wait and see if I am included in it.
“My goal is to reach the top shelf, and you can say that Manchester United is.
“Ten Hag? There has been novideo callwith him.”
Hojlund has scored five goals in four appearances for Denmark after being handed his debut last September.
Atalanta paid€17.2million to sign the young striker from Austrian outfit Sturm Graz in August 2022.
He scored nine goals in 32 Serie A matches for the Bergamo club in 2022/23 and is ɾєρօɾτedly valued at around £40m.
