Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand has hit out at Manchester United’s poor communication over the club’s protracted takeover.

The only official communication from Manchester United over thetakeovercame when the club invited strategic investment last November.

There have since been numerous takeover offers, with three deadlines elapsing, and the Glazers seemingly playing the interested bidders off against each other.

The transfer window is now open and the takeover situation is hanging like a dark cloud over the club.

Rio Ferdinand on the takeover

Speaking toFIVE, Ferdinand said: “This club is being held back and held down and suffocated with negative energy, because of the the owners.

“The lack of communication from them has been very short-sighted. When it’s such a long drawn-out process, you’ve got to think about the fɑɴȿ. No news is bad news, when it comes to fɑɴȿ’ emotions.”

Last month,Ferdinand had claimedthatSheikh Jassimwas the lead candidate and that a takeover was close. No Ԁєɑł has yet been announced.

“I had some news for a very good source”, he said.

Feridnand added of the Glazer family: “You’re Ԁєɑłing with six siblings, one person can’t make a decision on their own.

“We assumed Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his group was totally out of it, I don’t think that’s the case. They haven’t been told that they are gone and done with, in this.”

“Sheikh Jassim that Qatari bid is there and it is strong. At the moment its down to the Glazers to make a decision. From what I hear some want to remain involved, some aren’t happy with the number.

Ferdinand did say that he does not believe that Sheikh Jassim will go any higher than his fifth offer: “I think the Qataris have gone as far as they are going to go.”

Rio Ferdinand on transfer update

Ferdinand did say that his sources at the club tell him that transfer activity is ongoing behind the scenes.

Pointing to the club’s interest in goalkeeperAndre Onana, he said: “Bids are going in.”

“I think they are going to go for it, he is going to be someone they are going to get. The problem is Inter Milan’s pricing. Manchester United haven’t got an open chequebook. it’s not like before when there was no FFP.”
