Only earlier today, it was ɾєρօɾτed that Real Madrid wish to offload four more players in the summer, with backup goalkeeperAndriy Lunin on the list.
However, according to a fresh ɾєρօɾτ fromAS, Lunin will be staying put at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer as he does not wish to leave Real Madrid. Instead, the 24-year-old wishes to fulfil his contract with the club which expires in 2024.
Lunin, whose current market value stands at €5 million, signed forLos Blancosfive years ago in 2018 but was immediately loaned out to Leganes.
The Ukrainian international then had temporary stints with Real Valladolid and Real Oviedo, but has been at the Bernabeu since 2020.
However, game-time has been hard to come by for Lunin owing to the brilliance of Thibaut Courtois in goal. As such, the 24-year-old has made only 17 appearances at the club in the last three years.
It had given way to speculations that Lunin could look to leave this summer in search of regular minutes. Real Madrid, for their part, were open to the sale and had even started looking forpossible replacements for their second-choice goalkeeper.
However, those ρłɑɴs are now likely to come to a halt as Lunin has decided to stay put at Real Madrid and see out the remainder of his contract which expires in 2024.
There is unlikely to be much change in his situation as far as game-time is concerned next season either. However, there has been a change of heart on the player’s side, who does not wish to depart right away and would potentially be on his way out as a free agent next year.
