PSG PRESIDENT NASSER AL-KHELAIFI PLAYS SIGNIFICANT ROLE IN SHEIKH JASSIM’S BID TO BUY MANCHESTER UNITED

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has intervened with Qatar’s bid to takeoverManchester United, according to a new ɾєρօɾτ.

The Glazer family announced last November that they would welcome offers to buyManchester United. Since then we’ve had a two-horse race between Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

According toThe Athletic, Sheikh Jassim’s bidding team (Nine Two Foundation) initially consulted PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi for advice on United’s valuation.

It is understood that the Glazers want $8 billion (£6.4bn) to sell the club, but Sheikh Jassim has not yet met those demands.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein also claims Al-Khelaifi has subsequently been contacted by the Glazers in an attempt to persuade Sheikh Jassim to increase his bid. That would suggest that the American family are getting a bit desperate.

This will only make it more difficult for Nine Two Foundation to claim their bid for United is not stake backed, but we were never in any doubt when it came to that.

Furthermore, Sheikh Jassim has played no personal role in negotiations with Raine Group or the Glazers. That only raises further questions about him being a front for the Qatari state.

It is also stressed that Ratcliffe’s bid values the entire club slightly higher. However, the INEOS offer is for a staged takeover that would leave some or all of the six Glazer siblings as minority shareholders, before buying them out at a later date.
