Manchester United are seemingly set to reward Joe Hugill with a new contract following a promising pre-season for the forward.
Joe Hugill, 19,was given chances to impress forUnitedduring pre-season and the forward scored against Leeds United during the club’s first pre-season game against their Yorkshire rivals.
According toThe Athletic, there was lots of interest from League One clubs in Hugill, butErik ten Hagfeels his development is better suited at Old Trafford.
Hugill is close to agreeing a new Ԁєɑł to 2026, with the option of an extra year.Darren Fletcher,United’s technical director, ɾєρօɾτedly rates the forward highly.
At one stage, it appeared likely the forward would move on loan to Carlisle, but United believe it would suit Hugill best if he remained under Ten Hag’s tutelage.
United will evaluate Hugill decision in January
United will ɾєρօɾτedly evaluate how well Hugill has done in January as he is expected to be playing in the under 21’s, so a decision will be taken at the turn of the year.
The youngster was given his chances in the United first-team and was kept on tour when the majority of the youngsters had gone back to Manchester.
Clearly, Ten Hag rates the young forward and you wonder if the 19-year-old will receive first-team minutes in the Carabao Cup or the UEFA Champions League.
Ten Hag’s praise for Hugill
Following the striker’s goal against Leeds United in Oslo, Ten Hag was full of praise for not just Hugill but alsoNoan Emeran, who now plays for Dutch side FC Groningen.
“They’re coming in and it’s a big moment when you are coming up in the squad, in the first team,” Ten Hag told the Unitedwebsite.
“You deserve game time because over long years you worked hard for it. That’s very good and nice for them.”
The youngster arrived from Sunderland and will be hoping to continue to impress the Dutch manager over the next few months.
