The ex-Leeds United star has barely played for the Cityzens since joining the Premier League champions last summer.

Overall, Phillips has made just 21 appearances forMan City. This is partly due to ιɴjυɾу, but also due to the fact that he has been behind the likes of Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan in the pecking order.

Gundogan has left to join Barcelona. But the arrival of Mateo Kovacic could see the England international miss out on game time again.

Despite his lack of minutes, Phillips is still admired by several Premier League clubs. As previously ɾєρօɾτed by Football365,Liverpool hold an interest in the 27-year-old with Jurgen Klopp looking to bring in more midfield additions.

As per a separate ɾєρօɾτ fromChronicleLive, Newcastle are also considering a move for Phillips this summer.

Amid those links, Murphysays recent comparisons between Phillips and Jack Grealish’s situation atMan Cityaren’t realistic and admits that had he found himself in a similar position, he would have been pushing for a move.

“It’s not comparable,” Murphy said when asked if there were any comparisons between Phillips and Grealish. “Because what Jack Grealish did is learn on the job by playing football.

“Although his first season wasn’t as productive and successful as his second, he was still out there learning.

“You don’t learn anywhere near as much on the training pitch as you do on the football pitch. I’m telling you that now. It doesn’t matter who you’re training with or who’s coaching you.”

“If I was him, I think you’d have to be realistic and understand that it hasn’t worked. If he wants to give up another year doing the same thing, fair enough.

“That’s up to him. If he’s had a conversation with Pep that maybe we don’t know about – ‘look, I’m going to use you more’ – then of course you’re going to stay. It’s the most successful team.

“But I personally – if I went a season at any club where I was playing that little, I left. I manufactured a way out. He’s a good player. There will be plenty of takers for him.”

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see ifLiverpoolor Newcastle test Man City’s resolve and make a bid for Phillips this summer.
