Arsenal transfer news: David Raya is set to sign for the Gunners on an initial loan move from Brentford
Arsenal are set to sign goalkeeper David Raya on an initial season-long loan with an option to make the move permanent,football.londonunderstands.
The Ԁєɑł is set to be an initial loan with a £3m fee. This Ԁєɑł then includes a £27million option to buy for Arsenal if all parties find the move agreeable rather than an obligation.
Raya has just 12 months remaining on his contract with Brentford but to preserve his value, the Spaniard will extєɴԀ his contract at the G-Tech Community Stadium before completing his move to Arsenal. Raya is expected to complete his initial loan move within the next 48 hours and is likely to be available for selection for the Gunners’ opening Premier League fixture with Nottingham Forest on Saturday lunch time.
This is not the first time that Arsenal have bɾօυɢҺt in a player on loan with a possible view to signing them on a permanent basis. Sources within the club point to Martin Odegaard as an example of when this approach was successful. The Norwegian international was initially bɾօυɢҺt in on a loan Ԁєɑł from Real Madrid in January 2021 before going on to make that move permanent.
Arsenal are hopeful of being able to repeat this trick with Raya who was instrumental in pushing for the move. The Spaniard is set to arrive at the Emirates to provide competition to Aaron Ramsdale, although there has been no indication as to who will be the number one this season.
Raya will be come Arsenal’s fourth signing of the summer after Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber. The former Blackburn Rovers star will arrives after Matt Turner completed a permanent move to Nottingham Forest on Wednesday that could be worth a total of £10million.
