BARCELONA’S GOLDEN BOY OUTLINES CAREER AMBITIONS: “UCL WITH BARÇA AND WORLD CUP WITH SPAIN”

Pedri has firmly established himself as the heart and soul of Barcelona’s midfield. At just 20 years of age, the youngster is irreplaceable in Xavi Hernandez’s setup and is rightfully in the debate for the best in the business.

Injuries have not been kindto him during his stint in Catalonia so far. However, there is not much to fault apart from those fitness setbacks, for he is a standout on the field.

Recently, Barcelona’s young midfielder spoke toEl Dia(h/tMundo Deportivo) where he elaborated on topics including his aspirations, the current quality of theBarcelonasquad, and the past season. Here are the snippets from his interaction.

The Golden Boy winner first commented on the biggest trophies he dreamt of winning as a professional footballer, picking one each from the International and club football stages. He then insisted that he would leave no stone unturned in achieving those dreams.

“Winning the Champions League withBarçaand the World Cup with the Spanish national team. These are the trophies that every player wants to have.”

“I have not yet had the privilege of winning either of them. It is something that is in my mind and of course, I’m going to fight to get there and be in a position to achieve them.”

While his ambitions in terms of the collective were well defined, Pedri was relatively coy when asked about his aspirations on an individual level. He humbly responded to the question saying,

“I never imagined being where I am now, but I know I have to keep working because I want more titles and reach much higher up.”

The peak of Barcelona’s 2022/23 campaign was undoubtedly winning the La Liga title after a long wait. Pedri acknowledged the importance of the title and explained what made it sweet.

“LaLiga rewards regularity, it distinguishes the best in the entire championship. It is very difficult to win because you have to spєɴԀ all days trying to score.”

Finally, theBarcelonaprodigy gave his two cents on where he ranked the team’s current talent and calibre. While he admitted that the foundations of a great project were there, he kept his feet grounded and spoke on the opportunity to improve.

“We are a young team that wants to improve. We have a good group, with many qualities, and next year we have to go fight for everything.”
