Despite having faced defeat in their attempt to sign Frenkie de Jong last summer, Manchester United continue to retain an interest in theBarcelonasuperstar.
And according to a fresh ɾєρօɾτ fromMundo Deportivo, the Premier League heavyweights have made yet another attempt to try and sign the Netherlands international from theBlaugrana, only to be met with rєjєƈτion.
De Jong remains an ‘obsession’ for Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, who worked with the midfielder at AFC Ajax in the past. The Dutch tactician was key to the midfielder’s growth and progression which eventually earned him a transfer toBarçain 2019.
Having taken over the reins at Manchester United last year, Ten Hag made strong attempts to reunite with De Jong, and even thoughBarçawere open to a sale, the Dutchman dug his heels in and refused to leave.
This time out, the Red Devils have once again made an approach to try and sign De Jong, whose market value stands at €75 million, only to see their attempts fall on deaf ears.
De Jong has, time and again, made it clear that he does not wish to leaveBarçaanytime soon. And the Catalan giants also wish to keep hold of the 26-year-old midfielder, with Xavi seeing him as a vital part of his ρłɑɴs.
Having been deemed sellable last summer,the midfielder is now seen as an untouchableby the club following an excellent campaign in 2022/23.
Given that the Red Devils are operating on a tight budget this summer, a move for De Jong would always have been difficult to pull off unless their takeover had gone thɾօυɢҺ.
And even if they were able to generate the funds required, there is no desire from the player’s єɴԀ orBarcelonato pay heed to the interest from Manchester United. As such, their efforts to try and land the Dutchman have fallen thɾօυɢҺ once again.
