Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has called on the club hierarchy to sign more first-team players ahead of the new campaign.

However, their abysmal performance on the continental stage proved cause for concern as they failed to progress from the Champions League group stage.

After their relegation to the Europa League,Barcawere immediately considered major contєɴԀers for the title. Yet they failed to make it past the playoff round and were eliminated by Manchester United.

The La Liga triumph did enough to cloud their ȿҺօƈƙιɴɢdisplay in the European competitions, but Xavi is aware that his side have a major task on their hands in terms of defєɴԀing their league title.

Barca have already begun strengthening their squad this summer. They have been particularly active on the free transfer market, recruitingIlkay GundoganandInigo Martinezwithout spєɴԀing a dime on transfer fees.

However, Xavi has admitted he will need more signings to keep competing at the highest level and challenge for every silverware available in the coming season.

“We’re still missing pieces, we can’t fool the fɑɴȿ.” theBarcamanager toldMarcaat the presentation of his football camp.

“I think we can strengthen more, but the technical staff are working very hard, and the president is doing a very good job.

“We must strengthen ourselves, the president knows that, Mateu [Alemany] knows that, we must not deceive anyone. The market will be long – it’s open until the 31st of August, and we need to be as competitive as possible.”

If they fail to recruit more players to further strengthen the squad,Barcarisks being left behind by their perennial rivals Madrid in the summer transfer window.

Los Blancos have secured the return of Brahim Diaz while splashing a mammoth sum to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund.

They are also plottinga mind-boggling move for wantaway Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappewhich could prove a major game-changer for the Spanish giants.
