Barcelona move for Oriol Romeu

Forbesɾєρօɾτed in June that Barcelona were keen on Sofyan Amrabat and were keen on a potential offer. Their interest has since subsided.

The La Liga champions have just moved to bolster their midfield by signing Oriol Romeu from Girona, for just £4 million,Barca Universalɾєρօɾτ.

This is their alternative move to paying the £25-30 million for Amrabat, having chosen to splash the cash on young striker Vitor Roque as a priority.

Manchester United Amrabat battle

The challenge Manchester United face over Amrabat, is that the club are not ready to launch a bid right now.

A striker is the priority, which will determine the remaining budget, while there is a hope that in the meantime, player sales will bolster the club’s funds.

What United don’t need, is another club steaming in right now with a lucrative offer which wins Fiorentina and Amrabat over.

Barcelona have the prestige and Champions League football which could prove attractive, so it is good news they are out of the race. Now it is up to United to tie up other business, before turning to the Moroccan.

Why United need Amrabat

Manchester United improved last season but were beaten too easily in games away from home. Adding in tough tackling enforcer Amrabat will make United far less of a pushover.

He will also provide valuable cover for Casemiro, who cannot be expected to start every single game in all competitions.

Amrabat has also played under Erik ten Hag before, and should fit seamlessly into his midfield. There is a lot to like about this potential move.
