A cushion brilliant-cut, 118.05-carat, fancy-yellow, VS2-claritydiamondfetched $7 million (CHF 7,085,000) at Christie’s Magnificent Jewels in Geneva on May 15, smashing its estimate of $2.4-$3.4 million (CHF 2,500,000 – CHF 3,500,000).
The Magnificent Jewels sale achieved $62.4 million (CHF 63,145,500) in total. In addition to the 118.05-carat yellow stone, other top performers included a Harry Winston ruby and diamond ring, once belonging to a princess, which bɾօυɢҺt an impressive $7.1 million (CHF 7,198,500) and an imperial emerald of Grand Duchess Vladimir of Russia, set in a an emerald and diamond pєɴԀant necklace, which sold for $4.2 million (CHF 4,335,000). An exceptional 110 natural pearl sautoir sold for $5.6 million (CHF 5,723,000).
All in all, the auction achieved 86% by value and 87% by lot. Rahul Kadakia, Christie’s International Head of Jewellery, commented: “The Magnificent Jewels auction took place in a very dynamic room for six hours with strong bidding across the globe”.
