The Swiss brand has become synonymous with ultra-complicated timepieces made from cutting-edge materials. And it’s the latest offering that firmly pushes things into the realm of hyper horology. The Excalibur Double FlyingTourbillonsits at the top of Roger Dubuis’ product portfolio that perfectly showcases the brand’s mastery of complicated, technical watchmaking. For 2021, the Maison has released a new Excalibur Skeleton Double Flying Tourbillon that arrives with aesthetic updates and a range of technical enhancements. In the Swiss band’s own words, “the skeleton structure concept has been pushed to its limit to provide a dynamic aesthetic.” The focus clearly has been to enhance the aesthetic of the timepiece to create the impression of a thinner look and feel, which is achieved with the clean-cut lines with polished angles. The watchmaker says this trick has been applied to every component.
At the heart of the Excalibur Skeleton Double, Flying Tourbillon is the RD108SQ caliber. The double flying tourbillon movement has been aesthetically as well as technically updated. Sitting at 6 o’clock, the movement has been meticulously re-designed. It now features lightweight, anti-magnetic materials, including a titanium lower cage and a mirror-polished cobalt chrome upper cage. The overall tourbillon weight has been reduced by 16 percent. It is constructed from 319 components and offers a power reserve of 72 hours, despite being 37mm thick. The new timepiece is available in both pink and white gold. It comes paired with an interchangeable 3D calf leather strap, which gets an innovative securing mechanism that ensures the buckle is always centered on the wrist. Only eight pieces of the white and pink gold editions will be made. There’s also a version full-set with baguette-cut diamonds for those who want their Excalibur Skeleton Double Flying Tourbillon bejeweled.
