Andre Onana has replaced David De Gea at Manchester United – but the move could lead to the Spaniard finding a new club.
United have decided to make goalkeeping changes this summer with De Gea released at the єɴԀ of his contract in June.
Erik ten Hag then moved to sign a goalkeeper he knows very well in Andre Onana.
The Cameroonian stopper worked under Ten Hag at Ajax and they have now reunited at Old Trafford.
Onana is seen as a goalkeeper who can bring more ability on the ball, enhancing Ten Hag’s tactical approach.
Many coaches want to go down that route now, leaving a more traditional goalkeeper like De Gea in limbo – but he does have some interest.
David De Gea wanted by Bayern Munich
The Timesɾєρօɾτed a couple of days ago that De Gea is on the radar at Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
Bayern have had a clear first-choice stopper for more than a decade now with Manuel Neuer playing a starring role.
Neuer hasn’t played since December though having suffered a broken leg in a skiing ɑƈƈιԀєɴτ.
It’s thought that Neuer may still be a few months away from playing again, so Bayern are looking for another goalkeeper.
De Gea is on the wish list, but so is Brentford stopper and fellow Spaniard David Raya, so a move to Bavaria is far from a done Ԁєɑł.
Andre Onana domino effect could help De Gea
Football works in strange way sometimes and this could be one of them.
Onana is the man who has taken De Gea’s spot as United goalkeeper – but it could now help the Spaniard land a contract.
Inter Milan are desperate for a new goalkeeper with both Onana and Samir Handanovic moving on this summer.
Bayern stopper Yann Sommer is their top target andhe has admitted a move to Inter could materialise soon.
That would leave Bayern without the experienced cover they want for Neuer, which brings De Gea into play.
We can understand the appeal of De Gea as a proven goalkeeper but he is stylistically very, very different to Neuer and Sommer.
Bayern may well prefer Raya but De Gea will hope for a route back into a European giant – partly triggered by Onana’s move.
