Arsenal icon Ian Wright backs Kai Havertz to surprise supporters during his debut season in north London.

ArsenallegєɴԀ Ian Wright has claimed that fɑɴȿ are going to be surprised by Kai Havertz’s quality.

The north Londoners signed the German international from Chelsea last month in a Ԁєɑł worth £65million. Havertz established himself as one of Europe’s brightest young talents during his time with Bayer Leverkusen but struggled for consistency during his time at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues often utilised the 24-year-old as their most advanced attacker, a role that often saw him isolated in the final third. Mikel Arteta is expected to deploy the talented playmaker slightly deeper, playing him as a left-sided attacking midfielder during a pre-season friєɴԀly against Nurnberg on Thursday.

Now, Gunners icon Wright has voiced his excitement at the prospect of club-record signing Declan Rice, captain Martin Odegaard and Havertz forming a midfield three next season. “I feel very, very confident about that midfield and what that midfield can produce,” he said onWrighty’s Housepodcast.

“Especially with Havertz. Havertz in that role, I think we are going to be very surprised in his quality as well.

“Arsenal fɑɴȿ are going to love him, we haven’t seen nothing from him at Chelsea. Yes, he’s scored the winning goal in a Champions League final and stuff like that.

“But, he’s not a [number] nine, he’s not a false nine. He’s either a 10 drifting in like he did for [Bayer] Leverkusen, scoring lots of goals in his first couple of seasons.

“But I can see him as an eight, arriving with Jesus coming out, leaving those spaces. I cannot help but get excited.”
