TOTTENHAM ‘TRYING TO OVERTAKE’ EURO GIANTS IN MIDFIELDER PURSUIT AS MAN UTD RETURN TO THE FOLD

Tottenham are ɾєρօɾτedly ‘trying to overtake the competition’, includingManchester Unitedand other big names, forFiorentinamidfielderSofyan Amrabat.

The requirement forSpursto improve upon their season is crystal clear. In the four seasons from 2015/16 to 2018/19 they didn’t fail to finish inside the Premier League’s top four.

They’ve now failed to do so for three of the last four seasons. Last campaign was the one they didn’t, when Antonio Conte looked to have returned them to their rightful place, fighting at the top єɴԀ of the table.

That fight went up in flames mid-way thɾօυɢҺ the season, not helped by a rant by the Italian’s rant on his players which saw the two parties swiftly part company.

In any case, an eighth-placed finish is not what Tottenham would have hoped for. They’ll now hope they can make some changes to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

Ange Postecoglou’s appointment as the manager is the first big step. Whether it’s in the right direction depєɴԀs on what happens over the next few months, given recruitment seems key to turn things around.

Tottenham seem to be aiming high in their pursuit of Amrabat. Indeed,Foot Mercato ɾєρօɾτsthey’re ‘trying overtake the competition’ for the midfielder.

That competition, though, seems tough to overtake. Amrabat ɾєρօɾτedly ‘wants to play for Barcelona’, while Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich are also in the mix for him.

There’s a suggestion from Amrabat’s brother, Nordin, thatManchester United interest could be revived. Indeed, he believes Erik ten Hag is “charmed by” theFiorentinastar, after the Red Devils were linked in January.

What those sides all have that Tottenham don’t is European football. Not only that, but all four of the other interested sides are in the Champions League, whileSpurshave no European football at all to offer.

While the €25-30million (£21.5-26million approx) should be within Spurs’ budget, getting Amrabat to agree to personal terms could be tough.

However, his brother feels he’d like to play for a big side in either England or Spain, and if none other comes in, Tottenham could be in with a shot. Whether not that is the case remains to be seen.
