After introducing the Royal Oak Concept ‘Black Panther‘ Flying Tourbillon in 2021, watchmakerAudemars Piguethas partnered with Marvel to create another collaborative timepiece. Meet the Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon ‘Spider-Man’, a stunning timepiece that beautifully blєɴԀs the worlds of haute horology and comic books like its predecessor. As the name suggests, this limited-edition watch pays tribute to one of the most popular superheroes of all time – Spider-Man.
Similar to theBlack Panther watch, the newest collaborative piece features a miniature sculpture of the crime-fighting superhero from the Marvel universe on the dial. AP claims the process of producing each figure requires some 50 hours of work. The 3D figure shows Spider-Man mid-swing around Manhattan with one hand ready to shoot the web. If you look closely, the Spider-Man on the dial appears to be an adaption of the character from the comic books rather than any of the movies, which is not a bad thing.
The watch features a 42mm case made of titanium with both polished and blasted surfaces and gets a black ceramic bezel. Interestingly, the Spider-Man edition has a partially skeletonized dial, which works brilliantly with a sapphire crystal caseback. The red and purple colors of the Spider-Man miniature sculpture provide an interesting contrast to the otherwise monochromatic timepiece. Powering the watch is the Manufacture Caliber 2974 – a brand new open-worked movement based on the caliber 2948.
It offers a power reserve of 72 hours. The Spider-Man watch is supplied with a pair of straps: A black and grey rubber strap with a titanium folding clasp, and an additional black and red rubber strap. AP will produce only 250 examples of the Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon ‘Spider-Man’, each priced at CHF195,000 (about $216,000).
