Gary Neville has compared Pep Guardiola’s “relentless” success to formerManchester Unitedmanager Sir Alex Ferguson.

The two men are the only coaches to win the Treble with English clubs and claim three consecutivePremier Leaguetitles, which Guardiola completed last season.

Neville explained how the Catalan has been able to replicate Ferguson’s achievements during his 15-year career in management after watchingManchester Cityopen the season with a dominant 3-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor on Friday night.

“I’ve realised since I retired that the success of Sir Alex Ferguson was getting a highly talented group of players to come in every single day, work as hard as they possibly can and never give in,” the former right-back told Sky Sports.

“We did that for 10 or 15 years and that’s what Pep Guardiola has been able to do at Barcelona, Bayern Munich andManchester City.

“It’s really simple. If you’re players are the best in the country and you can get them to give you that work ethic every single day, you’re going to win.

“When you drop below that, it could be one or two per cent, that’s when you can have problems. Guardiola is relentless and he never lets go on that.”

Erling Haaland scored a first-half brace to putMan Citytwo goals up heading into the interval. However, that didn’t stop Guardiola from scolding his star striker as they walked off the pitch.

Rodri put the result beyond doubt with a striker in the 75th minute. Burnley were reduced to ten men in ιɴjυɾу time when Anass Zaroury was sent off following a late challenge on Kyle Walker.

The contest was marred by a first-half incident which saw an object, believed to be a lighter, hit Rico Lewis. The fan suspected of throwing the object was єjєƈτed from the stadium by police.
