Chelsea transfer news: Moises Caicedo is on the verge of leaving Brighton but it is currently unclear if he will sign for the Blues
Chelsea currently appear to be behind Liverpool as thefavourites to sign Moises Caicedo, but the Blues look to have a double advantage. The Brighton midfielder has been Chelsea’s priority target for the last few months, however negotiations have struggled to progress until a firm deadline was set by the Seagulls.
With just over 48 hours until the Premier League season kicks off, it was ɾєⱱєɑłєԀ that Brighton had made it clear they wanted to resolve the Caicedo saga and thus they would sell to the highest bidder. On Thursday,The Telegraphclaimed Liverpool had outbid their rivals and their offer soon increased to £110million with Brighton accepting the bid.
The 21-year-old was pictured in London ahead of being hopeful Chelsea would reach an agreement with Brighton, however a dramatic twist then saw Liverpool become his likely destination. However, fitting with how the Caicedo saga has rumbled on, the player himself made it clear to Brighton he only wants to join Chelsea.
That preference than became even more clear with Caicedo starting to follow Chelsea on Instagram, as noted by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.football.londonunderstands thatthe Blues are still confident they can sign Caicedo, despite Liverpool’s agreement.
In Jurgen Klopp’s morning press conference the topic of Caicedo understandably came up with the Liverpool boss backing up the ɾєρօɾτs about the club’s agreement with Brighton. “The fee with the club is agreed,” he said. We will see what that means. We aren’t a club with єɴԀless resources and we didn’t expect a couple of things to happen this summer. Then it happened.”
Despite Klopp’s public comment, the race for the Ecuador international’s signature is still very much alive with his Chelsea preference made clear and the ɾєɑȿօɴ behind it coming soon after. As perBen Jacobs, Caicedo has been in contact with many senior Chelsea stars which is one of the ɾєɑȿօɴs why he is adamant on a move to Chelsea.
Even with Caicedo’s stance and Chelsea’s confidence, Liverpool still hold the advantage, but the Blues now they must match or bid higher than the Reds to finally complete a move for Caicedo.
