Harry Kane to Bayern Munich is looking like a genuine possibility now but what would the transfer mean for Arsenal?

The possibility of Harry Kane leaving Tottenham has finally become a reality after Bayern Munich finally agreed a fee for the England captain.

A fee of more than £86million has been agreed, with ɾєρօɾτs that Bayern’s most recent offer was in the region of £94.6million. Now it comes down to whether Kane wants to actually leave the Premier League – and his shot at breaking the all-time scoring record held by Alan Shearer in England’s top flight – or stay and have his pick of clubs, in England and beyond, when his contract runs out next summer.

All the focus is now on whether Kane decides to stay or finally make a seismic exit from Spurs, but the move will have ripple effects on the red side of north London as well…

Champions League return to north London

If Kane signs for Bayern Munich, it is written in the stars that he will face his old foes in the Champions League in the upcoming season. The draw for the group stage is yet to be made, but Arsenal will almost certainly face the Bavarians at some point.

Bayern have knocked Arsenal out of the Champions League on numerous occasions over the past decade when the Gunners have been involved in the competition, and fate would likely pair the two together with Kane’s return to face his former north London foes the easy low-hanging narrative.

Football has an uncanny knack for making these kinds of things happen, so Arsenal fɑɴȿ might as well prepare themselves for the worst.

North London continues to be red

Harry Kane spearheaded Tottenham’s success in the north London derby over the past decade after years of Arsenal superiority nineties and noughties. Tottenham overtook their bitter rivals in the Mauricio Pochettino era and maintained the advantage largely thanks to Kane’s leadership and goals.

Arsenal restored their bragging rights last season with a Premier League double over Spurs and with Kane’s absence, the balance of power in north London is likely to remain the same.

Saka becomes England’s leading light in the Premier League

Harry Kane has been the talismanic leading figure for the England national team in the Premier League, setting an example with his performances and behaviour at Tottenham. While his position as captain will not be altered, his move to Germany will see the spotlight swing towards some of the players who remain in England.

Chief among those is Bukayo Saka, who after a standout season for Arsenal last term, can now build on that and really become an iconic figure for country in the way he already has for his club.
