Gomez: і wіll рlау іn аnу рoѕіtіon to һelр cіtу

Sergio Gomez says he is happy to play wherever he is asked to in order to helpCityin the coming season.

The Spaniard featured mostly as a full-back during his first campaign at the Etihad Stadium, playing 23 times as we won an historic Treble.

Since then, he has lined up in a more advanced role for Spain as they finished runners-up in this summer’s U21 European Championships.

The 22-year-old finished as joint-top scorer in the tournament, hitting three goals.

Gomez continued in that role during the second half of City’s first pre-season friєɴԀly of the new season – a 5-3 victory over Yokohama F. Marinos in Tokyo last Sunday.

Our No.21 insists he is willing to play in any position he is asked to byPep Guardiola.

“I enjoy it very much,” he said when asked about playing higher up the pitch.

“Whenever I play with these team-mates I enjoy it a lot, whether if I play as a winger or as a full back.

“In the national team I am more used to play as a winger, but in both positions I feel comfortable. I always try to help the team no matter what position I am playing whether it is forCityor Spain.”

For many players, it can take a season working withPep Guardiolato reach their best.

Heading into his second campaign, Gomez believes he will continue to progress the longer he spєɴԀs under the tutelage of the most successful manager in City’s history.

“With Pep you learn every day,” he said.

“He is always helping you. He creates new challenges every day for us. He always helps you both on the pitch and off. It helps us a lot in every way.”

He comes into the season full of confidence after that positive summer in Romania and Georgia.

Not just a goal threat, Gomez’s turn of pace and eye for a cross made him effective from wide positions earlier in the build-up for Santi Denia’s team.

While it єɴԀed in disappointment with final defeat to an England side that included threeCityyoungsters, Gomez is proud of his performance.

“It was so good. I felt very comfortable. We arrived to the final where we lost against England.

“It was a shame, but I think I had a very good tournament and so did the team. I tried to help them as much as possible. We could only arrive to the final. It was a shame to lose it against England.

“ColePalmerhelped them a lot in the final. James Trafford too, saving the penalty. Taylor, as the captain, was also one of the most important.

“City are doing a very good job with the young guys. That pays off in tournaments like that.”
