Arsenal have been linked with a move for Ajax and Ghana star Mohammed Kudus as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his attacking options before the summer transfer window closes.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta may have to wait a while before bolstering his first-team squad further.
As expected, it has been a busy summer transfer window for the Spaniard thus far. In terms of incomings, he’s overseen as many as three new signings, with Ԁєɑłs forKai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice taking the club’s total transfer spєɴԀ past the £200million mark.
On the other hand, Arteta has bid farewell to Granit Xhaka with the Switzerland international returning to Germany by joining Bayer Leverkusen whilst Ainsley Maitland-Niles has departed on a free transfer and Pablo Mari has completed a permanent move to Monza following a successful loan spell last season with the Serie A club.
With just under six weeks until transfer deadline day, there’s plenty of time for the Arsenal manager and sporting director Edu Gaspar to get more Ԁєɑłs done. In fact, when delivering an update on ρłɑɴs for the remainder of the window, Arteta confirmed he is expecting plenty of movement.
“I don’t know,”he said when asked if he will make more signings. “There will be movement still. There will be a lot of ins and outs. It’s still very early. Obviously, the last week has been a bit quiet. If we can try and improve the team we’ll do so. But we don’t want to get any weaker so we have to be sure of that as well.”
Now, whilst Auston Trusty, Nicolas Pepe, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Folarin Balogun and Cedric Soares could all depart before September 1, bringing in adequate cover for Bukayo Saka appears to be a priority for Arteta and Edu withMohammed Kudus said to be on their radar.
Although withChelsea ɾєρօɾτedly entering the race for the Ghana international’s signature, Arsenal will face a battle to land the 22-year-old and it could be that they can’t make a move until after a couple of first-team players have been sold or allowed to leave on loan.
Considering Ajax have a two-legged Europa League play-off round fixture on 24 August and 31 August 2023, previously this would have acted as a deadline for the Gunners to complete a Ԁєɑł otherwise they would be risking the player being cup-tied. However, Since the 2018/2019 campaign, the player registration restrictions in European competitions have been lifted.
As perUEFA, the ruling states:’A player who has been fielded in the preliminary round, or in the first, second, third qualifying round or the play-offs of the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League or UEFA Europa Conference League is entitled to play in the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League or UEFA Europa Conference League for another club as from the group stage’.
As a result, even if the Kudus does feature for Ajax in their Europa League play-off round tie late next month he would still be permitted to play for Arsenal in their Champions League campaign if he was to seal a transfer to the Emirates Stadium instead of Stamford Bridge.
