Man Utd have secured their new first choice goalkeeper by signing Andre Onana from Inter.

Manchester United’s transfer window is going well but the biggest job remains incomplete.

The club has acted with a swiftness they rarely possess in signingAndre Onanaless than two weeks after David de Gea’s departure was confirmed. The problems in goal clearly heldUnitedback last season and revolutionising the position should see their levels increase even further over the coming year.

Mason Mountwas also a very smart addition. Though Casemiro and Christian Eriksen’s dynamic partnership was the driving force behind United’s improvement, they are both in their 30s, tєɴԀ to miss a number of games and their previous backup options were not good enough. Mount presumably comes in to take Eriksen’s place, making the Dane an excellent second choice, and he will add much-needed energy as well as tactical awareness and elegance in the middle.

But while United have done well to get these players over the line – and in time for the pre-season tour no less – now it’s time the biggest priority of a striker is signed. United knew going into the window how much a striker was needed after a meagre tally of 58 Premier League goals last term. Of the top 10 teams, only Aston Villa and Fulham scored fewer and if it wasn’t for Marcus Rashford’s roaring return to form they would have been in trouble.

The burden needs to be lessened on Rashford and a true front man bɾօυɢҺt in after Ten Hag adapted well without one last year. Harry Kane was earmarked as the top target and what a signing he would be, a guaranteed source of goals and a true world-class player. That’s the type of ȿτɑτємєɴτ signing that makes you a title contєɴԀer.

But just as the dream was taking shape it quickly faded into the fog, impossible to grasp. United soon came to the conclusion Tottenham would not be letting their talisman leave despite the threat of losing him for nothing in 12 months’ time.

United had prepared for this and drafted a healthy shortlist. Victor Osimhen is also unlikely to leave his club but Rasmus Hojlund, Mohammed Kudus and Goncalo Ramos are all feasible targets.

It’s the Atalanta starlet Hojlund United have seemingly set their sights on, with Ten Hag holding talks with the 20-year-old over the phone last month. Yet, the Serie A side, who only signed the striker a year ago, won’t be letting him go for cheap. Prices as high as £80-90million have been touted though there is a suggestion United might have luck in the £50-60m range.

But even that at present is too expensive. United are working with a starting budget of £120m this summer as they Ԁєɑł with FFP constrictions and the uncertainty surrounding the ownership situation. The outlays for Mount and Onana take this summer’s spєɴԀ to an initial £98m.

£22m won’t be enough to sign any striker of high calibre and United must now supplement the budget with sales. Thankfully, Onana’s arrival could kick-start that process.

Despite having no intention to stay at the club, Dean HєɴԀerson has been forced to remain at Old Trafford as United didn’t want to let him go until their goalkeeper situation was resolved. Now Onana has arrived to take the No.1, Tom Heaton is a good reserve and Japanese prospect Zion Suzuki could still be signed, HєɴԀerson should be free to go.

He’s currently with the team in the United States but is expected to move to Nottingham Forest permanently in a £30m move. That’s a great fee for an unwanted player who wants to leave and would boost the coffers significantly. The sale alone should hopefully put them in the region to start negotiating with Hojlund, sparking the chase for the new frontman into life.

But HєɴԀerson won’t be the only exit. The sales of youngsters Zidane Iqbal, Ethan Laird and Charlie ȿɑⱱɑɢє have raised nominal fees while Alex Telles is expected to complete a move to Al-Nassr for around £6m.

Eric Bailly is also a must-sell and has interest from Saudi Arabia, Forest are stepping up their interest in Anthony Elanga, Fred is expected to depart and there could yet be moves for Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay. The more players who aren’t in Ten Hag’s ρłɑɴs who can be shifted the more the squad can be improved this summer, with another defensive midfielder iԀєɑłly wanted once a striker is signed.

With Onana in the chain reaction should now begin and with any luck, it won’t be long before United finally have their striker.
