Speaking in an interview (h/tMundo Deportivo),Barcelonaoutcast Sergino Dest has stated that he wishes to stay put at the club this summer amid ɾєρօɾτs of a move away.
Dest is back in pre-season training after spєɴԀing the last season away on loan at AC Milan where he struggled to make an impact.
Now back atBarça, the 22-year-old starlet has been linked with a move away, with ɾєρօɾτs suggesting that the La Liga champions intєɴԀ to sell him permanently,while not ruling out a loan exit if his wages are covered.
At the same time, though, some other media outlets have suggested thatXavi will give Dest a chance to prove himselfin the pre-season and earn a spot for himself in the squad for the upcoming campaign.
Amidst this, Dest has outlined his intentions to stay at the club and is prepared to give it his all to win over the manager and the coaching staff.
“I’m totally focused on working every day and in my mind is to stay and enjoy a great season atBarça. It’s up to me and I can,”he said.
Shedding light on his talks with Xavi, the USMNT international stated that the manager had told him that he will be starting from scratch, with a clean slate, and will have to work hard to earn hs place.
“He told me that I’m starting from scratch and I agree that I have to show my qualities. Everyone starts from scratch, I know I’m a bit behind but I’m sure I’ll work and do my best for the team. I will try to do my best,”Dest insisted.
Dest, who joinedBarcelonafrom Ajax in 2020 for €21 million, admitted that he is in a difficult situation but wishes to keep a positive outlook.
“It’s a difficult moment in my career and in this situation you can take two paths: be negative or think positive and I’m always one of those who have a positive mentality to work and change things,”Dest remarked.
The 22-year-old is looking forward to the pre-season tour of the US, as he will get to play inBarcelonacolours in his homeland.
Furthermore, the friєɴԀly against AC Milan will see Dest come up against USMNT teammate Christian Pulisic, who joined theRossonerifrom Chelsea recently. Talking about it, theBarcelonaoutcast said:”It’s always nice to see American players in the top teams.”
