Liverpool defєɴԀerTrent Alexander-Arnoldbelieves the Merseyside club can challengeManchester Cityfor the Premier League title next season.
Although, he admitted they would have to be near-perfect to usurp the treble winners.
The Reds finished 22 points behind championsManchester Citylast season. A late surge towards the єɴԀ of the season only helped them finish fifth on the EPL table, and they missed out on Champions League football.
However, Alexander-Arnold believes they must finish in a better position this coming season.
Alexander-Arnold said (viaSky Sports): “We want to be winning the league, we want to be challenging and being in title races and in Champions League football, so to not be in that next season is Ԁιȿɑρρօιɴτιɴɢ.
“We know how to win the league, we know how to challengeCityand go toe to toe with them, and you need to be near perfect thɾօυɢҺout the season, so for us, that’s where our heads are at.”
Alexander-Arnold believes what they need ahead of next season is consistency. He said they did well against the big teams but became sloppy against smaller sides away from home.
The 24-year-old saw his side lose away matches against AFC Bournemouth and Wolverhampton Wanderers. They must improve these results to stand a chance to fight for the title next season.
The England international also talked about playing a hybrid midfield role towards the єɴԀ of last season.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp used him as an inverted full-back to devastating effect. It coincided with an upturn in form.
Alexander-Arnold disclosed that he likes playing at full-back and in midfield. He is happy to do whatever the coach asks of him.
However, he might have to stick to the full-back role afterLiverpoolsignedAlexis Mac AllisterandDominik Szoboszlaias midfield reinforcement ahead of next season.They could still make more signings as they seek to revamp their centre.
